ChildPress reporters Ella and Itka want children and adults to discuss the same reliable information, instead of staying behind separate screens.
In their Dutch-language Literacy Day message, the reporters explain that listening matters alongside reading, writing and speaking. Understanding one another includes making room for the issues children care about.
They describe families sitting at dinner while each person looks at a different screen. Without shared information, it can be difficult to know which sources to trust or to talk about concerns such as climate change and bullying.
Ella and Itka explain why they interview adults. They want to hear adults' views and discover who is listening to children in return.
They also describe a publication for the dinner table. Its purpose would be to give family members common facts as a starting point for conversation.
Looking ahead, they imagine children making news together and learning reporting skills in press centres in town halls. The proposal is a way to give more children a place to ask questions and be heard.
