Norwegian Prime Minister Advocates for Youth Engagement and Safety

In a recent interview, the Norwegian Prime Minister discussed the importance of safety in schools and the role of youth participation in governance.
Community and Safety
The Prime Minister emphasized the strength of local communities in ensuring safety and support for one another. "Vi har gode lokalsamfunn hvor det å være en nabo til noen betyr at vi også følger opp og stiller opp," she stated, highlighting the collaborative efforts in providing school health services. She acknowledged that while many feel safe, continuous efforts are needed to ensure everyone experiences that safety.
Addressing the current global climate, she noted, "verden rundt oss er litt trøblete innimellom. Og det er krig i Europa, og vi skal ikke ha noe sånt hos oss." This underscores the importance of maintaining a strong defense and community support.
Det er den største utfordringen tror jeg var da jeg var barn og ung og når dere er barn og unge.
Navigating the Digital World
The Prime Minister discussed the challenges children face online, stressing the need for education on safe internet usage. "Det er sĂĄ utrolig mye der nĂĄr du scroller nedover," she remarked, indicating the overwhelming nature of online content. She believes it is crucial to teach children how to navigate the internet responsibly while also prioritizing traditional literacy skills through books.
"Det skjer mer når vi får gode bøker," she added, reinforcing the importance of reading in education.
Youth Participation in Governance
The Prime Minister expressed her admiration for Norway's youth engagement in politics, stating, "Jeg synes det er fint at dere får prøve dere." She highlighted the significance of children's rights to be heard and the establishment of youth boards in municipalities, allowing young voices to influence local governance.
She encouraged young people to take initiative and engage with their local leaders, noting that meaningful change requires grassroots efforts. "Det må være hva jeg kaller homegrown," she explained, emphasizing the need for genuine societal responses.
